Deadline for applications: May 4th, 2017

Description
The major objective of this research activity is the development of algorithms and control strategies for the execution of complex manipulation of deformable objects in the industrial scenario.
In particular, the manipulation of electric wires using an industrial manipulator will be studied. This research activity is motivated by the fact that several manufacturing activities involving electric wires are nowadays completely executed by humans, because of the manipulated object deformability, the crowded space and the number of obstacles, with frequent collisions between manipulated objects, and the need of moving the already connected electric wires to connect the new ones.
This research implies the development of mathematical models of the manipulation problem, the implementation of demonstrator and the experimental validation, with strong connection with the application and the industrial requirements.

Requirements
We are looking for a scientist with the following competences/skills:
- Sound background and working experience in mechatronics/robotics/control system design;
- Proficiency in computer-aided design, enabling device prototyping/fabrication;
- Strong competencies in programming (C/C++, ROS), in particular in the control of robotic     manipulators/devices;
- Competencies in numerical modeling and simulation (MATLAB) of rigid and deformable systems.
All the above competences/skills are highly desirable but not all are strictly mandatory. Strong organizational skills, creativity, motivation and communication skills (oral and written) are highly required.
The prospective candidate has a Ph.D. in Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science or related fields.
